Final thoughts about my trip

April 5th – Rest day in Kagbeni

We have decided to take a rest day today to try to let Blaine recuperate his knee and Andrea to take care of her ankles. Blaine would have none of the rest and despite Bethany’s protestations to the contrary, he joined us as we explored the village. Most of the day was frittered away in town exploring the local shops and looking at the local wildlife.

Laundry time! While out, we came across a bunch of local kids playing with a bright yellow bird that also happened to be dead. When we tried to see what they were playing with, the kids ran over and shoved the bird into Bethany’s face to give her a better view. We also discovered a local place called “Yac Donalds” which was appropriately painted bright red and yellow.

We also found out that there was a local place that had a movie theatre setup. After much debate, we set plans to come back at 6PM and watch the movie. The rest of the day was spent lounging around the hotel and taking care of other business. It was nice to get in a hot shower and have the chance to do some laundry. Mike and Andrea made their way up to the roof and shot a small video of the village that you can see by clicking here. This should provide you with a better idea of what the village looks like. We also filled up on snacks and other food as I was regaining my appetite after the intestinal agony of the previous day.

Inside the movie theatre

After relaxing for a bit, we returned to the theatre. It was nicely constructed wooden hall about 60 feet long and 20 feet wide. A digital projector hung from the ceiling and the benches at the back off the hall were constructed with stadium style seating. We watched Blade 3 and ate candy bars. It felt weird to be sitting in Nepal watching a mindless American movie and eating American candy bars, but at the time, was exactly what I needed.
